I could go to the table saw rather than pick up a tenon saw but i am probably quicker with a tenon saw.

The varnish is plenty tough so using poly just makes the process a little more difficult because you have sand more to ensure the next layer of finish will bond well.
In addition it doubles as extra seating and step stool for reaching high things in the shop.

Ok set the depth of cut for the table saw at about 2 1 4 and set the fence for a 6 wide cut.
The only slightly tricky thing is cutting the feet so the sawbench sits flat on the floor.
With the sawbench upside down on your bench place the shelf pieces against the lower braces.
If you want to add a shelf first rip a 10 bevel on the shelf braces and cut the ends of the shelf pieces at 10.
I made one a few years ago and find that i use it all the time in my shop.

Glue and screw the braces to the legs using three 8 x 2 wood screws in each leg.
I have a nice big well equipped machine shop just behind the studio here.
The dovetail and tenon saws see a quite a bit of daylight as they are bench saws.
